Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, has revealed that the billionaire entrepreneur has expressed interest in purchasing English Premier League club Liverpool. While Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the club’s current owners, have not signaled any intention to sell, they have previously accepted external investments.
In an interview with Times Radio, Errol Musk acknowledged his son’s admiration for the six-time European Cup champions. “Oh yes, but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it,” Errol Musk said. “He would like to, yes, obviously. Anybody would want to. So would I.” However, he added cryptically, “I can’t comment on that. They’ll raise the price.”
FSG recently sold a minority stake in Liverpool to U.S. investment firm Dynasty Equity in September 2023. At the time, FSG president Mike Gordon reiterated the group’s commitment to the club, saying, “Our long-term commitment to Liverpool remains as strong as ever. If there is an investment partner that is right for Liverpool, we would pursue the opportunity to ensure the club’s financial resiliency and growth.”
Under FSG’s ownership, Liverpool has solidified its position as one of Europe’s leading football clubs. The team ended a 30-year wait for an English league title in 2020, one season after capturing the Champions League crown. This season, Liverpool is again leading the Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
Errol Musk revealed family connections to Liverpool and shared a surprising anecdote: “We were fortunate enough to know quite a few of the Beatles because they grew up with us — my family.”
Beyond football, Elon Musk has made headlines in British politics following the Labour Party’s election victory in July. Musk has used his social platform, X, to call for a new election, sparking tensions with Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government. On Monday, Starmer condemned Musk’s “lies and misinformation,” accusing him of undermining British democracy.
Liverpool FC has yet to comment on the speculation, and Musk’s potential bid remains uncertain. However, the possibility of the Tesla CEO entering the world of football ownership has already stirred excitement and intrigue among fans.
