Elon Musk Gets Pentagon Briefing on Possible War with China

Elon Musk will visit the Pentagon on Friday, March 21. Reports say he will receive information about a secret U.S. military plan involving China. The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal reported this on March 20. Two U.S. officials confirmed the meeting. Another official told the Times that the discussion will focus on China but did not share more details. A fourth official confirmed Muskโ€™s attendance but did not specify the reason. One official told the Journal that Musk personally requested the meeting. Elon Muskโ€™s involvement in significant military discussions raises many questions.

Pentagon Officials Confirm Muskโ€™s Visit

Sean Parnell, a spokesman for the Defense Department, said the Pentagon is happy to welcome Musk. He was invited by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and is just visiting. The White House has not responded to requests for comments. In a post on X, Hegseth stated that Elon Musk gets no access to top-secret war plans. He described the meeting as informal, focusing on better production and efficiency. The Department of Defense has not provided additional information.

Pentagonโ€™s Secret War Plan and What It Includes

The Pentagonโ€™s war plans are some of the most highly classified military secrets. Officials told the Times that the secret plan includes 20 to 30 slides. These slides explain how the U.S. would respond to a military conflict with China. Hegseth will present parts of the China strategy to Musk during the briefing. Two top military officials will also attend: Adm. Christopher W. Grady and Adm. Samuel J. Paparo. Hegseth himself received briefings on parts of the plan last week and another part on March 19. No one knows how much information Musk will see or why officials chose him for the briefing. His role as an advisor to former President Donald Trump excludes military matters involving China. He reviews highly sensitive content that few outsiders access.

Concerns Over Muskโ€™s Role in Military Discussions

Some experts question why Musk is involved in such a sensitive discussion. He remains the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla and also leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He has significant business interests in China, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest. In November, Musk publicly suggested that the Pentagon should stop purchasing manned fighter jets from Lockheed Martin. His previous comments on military acquisitions have drawn attention, and his involvement in Pentagon discussions could lead to further scrutiny. Elon Muskโ€™s involvement in these high-level briefings sparks controversy due to his business ties to China.

Musk Has Not Commented on the Reports

Musk has not publicly addressed the reports about his Pentagon visit. On X, he instead posted updates about SpaceX, Tesla, and Trumpโ€™s efforts to change the Department of Education. His silence on the meeting has led to more speculation about the purpose of his visit and the information he may receive.
