Efforts continue to locate woman swept away by flash floods in the Grand Canyon

Search and rescue teams at Grand Canyon National Park are currently on the hunt for a missing Arizona woman who was swept away by a creek during a flash flood. The incident occurred near where other hikers were recently rescued. The woman, identified as 33-year-old Chenoa Nickerson from Gilbert, was hiking without a life jacket when she was carried into Havasu Creek, approximately half a mile from its convergence with the Colorado River, following the flash flood at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Nickerson had spent the night at Havasu Campground and was en route to the confluence when the floodwaters overtook her, according to the National Park Service. The rush of water left several hikers stranded in the vicinity of Beaver Falls. Rescue operations commenced before 3 p.m., utilizing a helicopter to extract the stranded individuals to safety, as reported by the service.
In a statement, the National Park Service mentioned its close collaboration with the Havasupai Tribe to coordinate the ongoing rescue operations and ensure the well-being of all individuals involved.
