Dudamel to conduct ‘Die Walküre’ in L.A. Philharmonic’s last season

Gustavo Dudamel’s Final Season with Los Angeles Philharmonic

In a notable farewell, Gustavo Dudamel will bring to life Wagner’s “Die Walküre” during his 17th and last season as the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s music director. The performances will be staged with one act per evening from May 19-21, followed by another set from May 22-24. A distinguished cast, including Christine Goerke and Ryan Speedo Green, will accompany Dudamel, with the visual elements crafted by Frank Gehry, the architectural mastermind behind the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

A poignant selection marks Dudamel’s concluding concerts at Disney Hall from June 5-7, 2026. He will conduct John Adams’ “Harmonium” alongside Antonio Estévez’s “Cantata Criolla,” a symbolic nod to his Venezuelan roots and American connections. This season revealingly titled “Gracias Gustavo,” will be a profound tribute to his enduring influence on the orchestra.

Before leaving for the New York Philharmonic in 2026, Dudamel will also lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic during its 2026 Hollywood Bowl season. His significant contributions will continue as he guides both a world premiere composed by Pulitzer Prize winner Ellen Reid and an orchestra and choir piece co-commissioned with the New York Philharmonic starting on September 25, marking the season’s official opening.

Additionally, Dudamel will take the orchestra on a significant international tour from October 20-30, visiting the vibrant cities of Seoul, South Korea; Tokyo; and Taipei, Taiwan. This tour will serve as a global testament to his artistic vision and the invaluable moments he shared with the Los Angeles Philharmonic over the years.
