Driver of van detained for ramming gates at Dublin’s government headquarters

In Dublin, a driver was taken into custody early on Friday after crashing his van into gates outside the Irish prime minister’s offices and other government buildings. The gate at the attorney general’s office was smashed off its hinges, while considerable damage was evident outside the office of Prime Minister Simon Harris. Authorities are also looking into criminal damage at President Michael Higgins’ official residence, although it is unclear if this is connected to the gate-crashing incident. The events occurred outside of normal office hours, with the locations approximately 3 miles apart. The driver, a man in his 40s, was detained on suspicion of driving offenses, and the white van involved in the incident was removed from the scene. The area was sealed off as law enforcement carried out their investigation.
