Dickerson and DuBois appointed as co-anchors for “CBS Evening News” to replace Norah O’Donnell

John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois are set to become the co-anchors of the “CBS Evening News” later this year, as announced by the network on Thursday. Dickerson, a former host of “Face the Nation” and “CBS This Morning,” has been anchoring a nightly newscast for CBS’ streaming service, while DuBois is a veteran anchor for CBS’ local affiliate in New York City.
The departure of Norah O’Donnell, who will transition to a special correspondent role focusing on conducting significant interviews for CBS, paved the way for Dickerson and DuBois to take over the evening news anchor desks. O’Donnell’s tenure did not significantly impact the ratings, with “CBS Evening News” consistently ranking behind ABC’s “World News Tonight” and NBC’s “Nightly News.”
Bill Owens, the executive producer of CBS News’ successful “60 Minutes,” will now oversee the evening news. Wendy McMahon, president and CEO of CBS News and Stations, shared that Owens has appointed Guy Campanile, a seasoned hand from “60 Minutes,” as the executive producer of the evening news.
Margaret Brennan, who moderates “Face the Nation” and is based in Washington, will spearhead political and foreign affairs coverage for the evening news. To accommodate O’Donnell, the broadcast had been airing from a Washington studio, but CBS announced plans to move it back to New York.
The newscast will also feature Lonnie Quinn as its chief weather forecaster.
