Trump sends elite forces deployed to the border

Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division, known as the “Screaming Eagles,” deployed to the southern border on Saturday to bolster President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration. Military police officers with the 716th Military Police Battalion departed Fort Campbell, Kentucky, in support of U.S. Northern Command’s border security mission.

Iconic 101st Airborne Division

The 101st Airborne, renowned for its role in World War II and immortalized in the HBO series Band of Brothers, is one of the most recognizable units in the U.S. Army. The newly deployed troops are expected to work closely with agencies such as Customs and Border Protection to secure the nation’s southern frontier.

Increased military presence

Trump, who declared a national emergency at the border shortly after taking office, has directed the Pentagon to consider sending up to 10,000 troops. The U.S. military has already ordered an additional 1,500 troops to the border this week, with more possibly en route. Units from the 82nd Airborne and 10th Mountain Division have also been put on notice for potential deployment.

Meanwhile, targeted arrests of hundreds of criminal undocumented immigrants began Tuesday in multiple sanctuary cities. The Department of Justice is warning sanctuary jurisdictions against obstructing federal immigration enforcement, reflecting the administration’s intensified approach to border security and public safety.
