Democrats running scared as Harris’ ‘Blue Wall’ strategy crumbles and insiders criticize lack of focus

Kamala Harris has more funding, leads in national polls, and enjoys strong support from media and celebrities. But despite these advantages, some Democrats are panicking over her chances of victory.

The Erosion of the “Blue Wall”

The reason for concern lies in the details of polling data, which show signs of weakness in the so-called “Blue Wall” states—Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. These Rust Belt states have historically been Democratic strongholds, except in 2016, when Donald Trump won all three and claimed the presidency.

As the 2024 election approaches, alarm bells are ringing for Harris’ campaign in these key battlegrounds.

Trump Gains in Key Battlegrounds

According to the polling average from RealClearPolitics, Trump leads by 0.4 percentage points in Wisconsin, 0.8 in Pennsylvania, and 1.2 in Michigan. Though the margins are razor-thin, Trump has gained momentum in recent weeks.

There are already signs that the Harris campaign may be considering a shift in strategy, with reports suggesting they may focus more heavily on Pennsylvania, fearing losses in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Tactical Concerns Among Democrats

Recent campaign decisions have caused unease within the Democratic Party. For example, Harris is set to give a speech on abortion rights in Texas— a state widely expected to go to Trump. Some insiders are puzzled by this move, questioning why she isn’t concentrating more on the battleground states. “It seems like they’ve forgotten about the Blue Wall,” one insider told the New York Post. “There’s no clear strategy here!”

In contrast, Trump has heavily focused on the Midwest, making 13 campaign stops in Michigan alone.

Mixed Early Voting Signals

Despite these concerns, Democrats point to some positive developments. Early voting numbers, while mixed, show more Democrats voting than Republicans in some states like Florida. However, in key states like Nevada and Arizona, more Republicans have cast early ballots.

Financial Edge

Harris has significantly outpaced Trump in fundraising. In September alone, she raised three times as much as Trump, bringing in a total of $1 billion in donations.

While anxiety is growing among some Democrats, others are trying to calm the panic. As one insider put it, “We often tend to panic prematurely.”
