Demi Moore is now the queen of Hollywood with powerful acceptance speech

Demi Moore made history at the 82nd Golden Globes on Sunday night, winning her first-ever award for her performance in The Substance.

The actress claimed the title of Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, beating out a competitive field of nominees including Amy Adams (Nightbitch), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), and Zendaya (Challengers).

A Moment 45 Years in the Making

During her heartfelt acceptance speech, Moore reflected on her decades-long career and the journey to this milestone.

“I’ve been doing this a long time—over 45 years—and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor,” Moore said, visibly emotional.

She shared how a producer once labeled her a “popcorn actress,” a term that she admitted had shaped her career perception.

“At that time, I made that mean I wasn’t allowed to have this—that I could do successful movies, make a lot of money, but I couldn’t be acknowledged,” Moore said. “And I believed that. Tonight, I’m just so humbled and so grateful.”

About The Substance

Directed by Coralie Fargeat, The Substance tells the story of Elisabeth Sparkle, a former fitness TV star fired by her boss (Dennis Quaid) after falling from fame. Elisabeth is offered a chance to regain her youth through a mysterious drug that transforms her into the stunning, twentysomething Sue (played by Margaret Qualley). However, the treatment comes with a catch: the two personas must alternate weekly.

The film premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, where it also won Best Screenplay. Critics praised Moore’s nuanced performance as Elisabeth, with many calling it her best role in years.

A Season of Recognition for Moore

Moore’s role in The Substance has garnered multiple nominations this awards season, including a Critics Choice Award for Best Actress and an Independent Spirit Award for Best Lead Performance.

This Golden Globe marks Moore’s first win, though she has been nominated three times previously. Her first nod came in 1991 for her iconic role in Ghost, followed by dual nominations in 1997 for If These Walls Could Talk as both an actress and producer.

Red Carpet Triumph with Family

Moore celebrated the moment with her three daughters, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah Willis, who joined her on the red carpet for The Substance premiere. The family’s united appearance added an extra layer of joy to the star’s big night.

With this Golden Globe win, Moore has cemented her status as a Hollywood icon, proving that perseverance and talent can break through even decades-old perceptions. Her transformative role in The Substance not only revitalized her career but also reminded audiences of her remarkable range as an actress.
