Dallas Stars secure eight-year, $66 million contract extension for goalie Jake Oettinger

The Dallas Stars have officially secured their number one goaltender, Jake Oettinger, with an impressive eight-year contract extension valued at $66 million.
This new deal, which solidifies Oettinger’s position with the team until the end of the 2032-33 NHL season, carries an annual salary cap hit of $8.25 million.
The announcement of this agreement comes shortly after the Boston Bruins also signed American goalie Jeremy Swayman to a similar contract arrangement.

Dallas Stars’ general manager, Jim Nill, expressed his enthusiasm for the extension, stating, “Jake has established himself as one of the elite goaltenders in the NHL.”
He emphasized Oettinger’s impressive combination of poise, size, athleticism, and mental fortitude, which has greatly contributed to the team’s success since he took over as the starting goaltender.
Nill highlighted Oettinger’s significance to the team, noting that he is a vital part of the Stars’ core and will help them compete for the Stanley Cup both this season and in the forthcoming years.

Oettinger was previously set to become a restricted free agent in the upcoming summer, having made $4 million this current season.
His new contract, which becomes effective immediately, alleviates any uncertainty surrounding his contract status as he prepares for potential selection as one of the goalies representing the U.S. in the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics.
Currently, Oettinger’s performance has been nothing short of stellar, boasting a record of 3-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.63 and a save percentage of .948.

As he approaches his 26th birthday in December, Oettinger played a crucial role last season in guiding the Dallas Stars to the Western Conference finals.
Notably, the Stars have reached the playoffs during all three seasons that he has served as their starting goaltender, highlighting his impact on the team’s competitive edge.
