Andrew Cuomo is back! The former New York governor officially launched his campaign for NYC mayor, vowing to “save the city” just four years after resigning in disgrace.
Cuomo’s Bold Return to Politics
In a nearly 18-minute campaign video posted on X, Cuomo declared NYC in crisis and called for “bold action” to turn things around.
“We know that today, our New York City is in trouble,” Cuomo said. “But New Yorkers know what to do in a leadership crisis—you lead, you act, you do.”
He also highlighted his accomplishments as governor, insisting he’s the man to fix the city.

A Scandal-Plagued Race
Cuomo’s entry shakes up an already chaotic mayoral race, where current Mayor Eric Adams faces a corruption probe that could derail his re-election bid.
Other Democratic contenders include:
? Brad Lander – NYC Comptroller
? Scott Stringer – Former Comptroller
? Zohran Mamdani – State Assemblyman
? Jessica Ramos & Zellnor Myrie – State Senators
Critics Slam Cuomo’s Run
Not everyone is thrilled about Cuomo’s return. Scott Stringer ripped into him minutes after his announcement, saying:
“Cuomo spent years treating NYC like his personal punching bag—slashing MTA funding, wrecking the subway, and cutting billions from public schools and Medicaid. And now he wants New Yorkers to rehab his reputation? Give me a break!”
Cuomo’s Rocky Past & Attempt at Redemption
Cuomo enjoyed high approval ratings during the pandemic but resigned in 2021 after a damning sexual harassment scandal.
A state report found he harassed 11 women, leading to bipartisan calls for his resignation. At the time, Cuomo claimed:
“I didn’t realize how the line had been redrawn… There are generational and cultural shifts I didn’t fully appreciate.”
Now, he’s attempting a political comeback, admitting in his campaign launch:
“Did I always do everything right? No. Did I make mistakes? Painfully, definitely. But I believe I learned from them.”
Can Cuomo Win? Some Say Yes!
Despite the controversy, Cuomo already has big-name backers. Rep. Ritchie Torres endorsed him, saying:
“Andrew Cuomo has the competence to govern the city. He has the courage to stand up to extremist politics—from both the far left and far right. America loves a comeback. New York loves a comeback.”
