A significant incident occurred in North Dakota when a large herd of cattle broke free from a pasture, leading to dangerous conditions on Interstate 94. Early on Monday at approximately 1 a.m., these cattle left their enclosure near Driscoll and gathered beneath an overpass, creating an unexpected hazard for drivers.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that a semi-truck, which was transporting refrigerated goods, collided with the wandering cattle. This impact caused the truck to flip over, resulting in a minor fire that was quickly brought under control. Fortunately, the truck’s driver was unharmed in the accident.
Following the first collision, another vehicle, a Ford Escape, also hit the cattle. The driver of this vehicle sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises.
Shortly after, a Ford Fusion collided with the remaining cattle. The four occupants of this car, including two adults and two children, were transported to a hospital for medical assessment.
The series of accidents necessitated a closure of the interstate for several hours, disrupting traffic and prompting emergency responses to address the situation and ensure safety for all road users.
