Couple Married 74 Years Pass Away Hours Apart on Same Day

  • A Brazilian couple married for 74 years died hours apart, mirroring the iconic love story from The Notebook.
  • Despite battling cancer and Alzheimer’s, Paschoal cared for Odileta until their simultaneous passing as a couple married through hardship.
  • The devoted couple married and left behind six children, a charitable foundation, and an inspiring eternal love story.

Odileta and Paschoal de Haro shared an extraordinary love that lasted 74 years. Their story took a heartbreaking yet beautiful turn when they died just hours apart, echoing the timeless romance of The Notebook. The couple passed away on the same day, only two days after celebrating their anniversary. Their family believes it was no coincidence—Paschoal had prayed for them to leave this world together. This couple married with such devotion lived their lives as a remarkable testament to love.

A Husband’s Final Wish Fulfilled

Paschoal battled bowel cancer while Odileta struggled with Alzheimer’s. Despite his own illness, he cared for her until the very end. In April, his prayer was answered. Odileta, 92, passed away at 7 a.m., and Paschoal, 94, followed just ten hours later at 5 p.m. They spent their final moments in the same room, in their home in Votuporanga, Brazil. Their love remained unbroken until the last breath, proving once again the enduring bond of a couple married for a lifetime.

From a Chance Meeting to a Lifetime Together

Their love story began in the 1940s in a small Brazilian town. Odileta was just 15, and Paschoal was 18 when they met in Votuporanga’s main square. Fate brought them together in the simplest way—Paschoal was fixing a piece of jewelry when the chain slipped from his hands and lightly struck Odileta’s arm. Instead of annoyance, laughter followed. That small moment sparked a conversation, then a courtship, and finally, a marriage in April 1951.

Building a Family and a Legacy of Kindness

The couple raised six children, with Odileta caring for the home while Paschoal worked at a fabric shop. Over time, their family grew to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren. But their love extended beyond their own kin. They founded a charity to help single mothers and those in need, donating baby clothes and food. Their son-in-law, Luciano Leal, described them as endlessly loving, always welcoming others without judgment.

A Love That Inspired Everyone Around Them

Luciano often said their love was like something from a movie. They never hid their wish to leave this world together. On their final anniversary, surrounded by family, their bond was as strong as ever. “They lived, they loved, and they triumphed in this great passion,” Luciano said. Their story didn’t just touch their family—it became a testament to enduring love.

A Real-Life Fairy Tale Ending

Their passing mirrored The Notebook, where an elderly couple dies side by side after a lifetime of devotion. Like the film, Odileta’s fading memory never weakened Paschoal’s dedication. In the end, they left as they lived—together. Their family finds comfort in knowing their love story as a couple married for so long didn’t end in separation. Instead, it closed with the same unity that defined their 74 years together.

A Legacy That Will Never Fade

Odileta and Paschoal’s love wasn’t just about romance—it was about kindness, resilience, and unwavering commitment. They built a family, helped their community, and left behind a story that will be told for generations. In a world where love often feels fleeting, their lives proved that true love can last a lifetime—and beyond.
