A man in Boulder, Colorado, was taken into custody following a series of hit-and-run accidents, including almost hitting a pedestrian. He then crashed his pickup truck through a gate and onto the football field at the University of Colorado, causing damage to the grass, authorities confirmed. The Colorado Buffaloes, led by former NFL player Deion Sanders, are not scheduled to play at home until they face Baylor on September 21, and officials assured that the field will be repaired in time for the game.
Witnesses observed a blue pickup truck colliding with at least two vehicles at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, then driving erratically, hitting trees and signs. The driver also dangerously passed by one of the witnesses who attempted to intervene, according to Boulder police. Despite police efforts to apprehend him, the driver managed to escape but was later seen near the football stadium. University police were also unable to detain him as he forced his way through a gate and onto Folsom Field, where he ultimately surrendered to authorities after a brief negotiation.
Online images displayed that one of the truck’s rear tires was missing, with the wheel dug into the grass at the 40-yard-line. The university is currently assessing the damage to the field and the entrance gates but stated that it will not impact the Buffaloes’ upcoming home game, as mentioned by Steve Hurlbert from Colorado’s athletics department.
The individual involved, a 48-year-old man, was taken to jail on various charges, including attempted vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of multiple accidents causing damage, and criminal mischief involving damages estimated between $100,000 and $150,000, authorities revealed.
