Chilling: Californian man plotted coordinated attack with Wisconsin school shooter

A 20-year-old California man has been detained for allegedly planning a mass shooting at a government building in coordination with the teenage girl who opened fire at a Wisconsin Christian school, killing two people on Monday.

Alexander Paffendorf, of Carlsbad, reportedly exchanged messages with 15-year-old Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow about carrying out parallel attacks. While Rupnow targeted the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Paffendorf allegedly planned to strike a government building, according to a gun violence restraining order obtained by CBS 8.

Plot Unveiled Through Disturbing Messages

The restraining order states that Paffendorf admitted to FBI agents during an interview that he told Rupnow he would arm himself with explosives and a gun to attack a government facility. However, the specific building he allegedly intended to target remains undisclosed.

Rupnow carried out her deadly rampage on Monday, killing substitute teacher Erin West, 42, and 14-year-old freshman Rubi Vergara before taking her own life. Five other students and one teacher were wounded, with two students still in critical condition.

Emergency Action Under California’s Red Flag Law

Following the revelations, a San Diego Superior Court judge approved an emergency restraining order against Paffendorf under California’s red flag gun law. The order mandates that Paffendorf surrender all firearms and ammunition to authorities within 48 hours.

Soon after the order was approved, more than a dozen police vehicles surrounded Paffendorf’s residence. Neighbor Alex Gallegos described the scene, saying, “They had their full guns out all over the street. I’d say about 15 cops here.” Authorities were seen carrying out a large gun box from the home.

Unraveling the Motive Behind the Violence

Investigators are now analyzing the messages between Paffendorf and Rupnow to gain insight into the teenage shooter’s motives. While the reason for Rupnow’s deadly actions remains unclear, the communications may provide critical context.

The Madison community continues to mourn the tragedy, with hundreds gathering for a vigil on Capitol Square to honor the victims. As investigations unfold, the chilling coordination between the two suspects has raised questions about the warning signs and prevention of such violent incidents.
