Brutal snowstorm: 100-vehicle crash shuts down Oregon highway

A brutal snowstorm turned Oregon’s Interstate-84 into a disaster zone on Thursday morning! A staggering 100 vehicles, including massive big rigs, crashed in a catastrophic pileup. Authorities called it one of the worst traffic nightmares in recent history.

SUV bursts into flames among wreckage

Among the wreckage, an SUV caught fire, sending thick smoke billowing into the sky. Terrified passengers managed to escape just in time. Shocking photos released by law enforcement show the vehicle completely burned from top to bottom.

First responders rush to save lives

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, braving icy conditions to check every car for trapped victims. Despite the carnage, officials reported only minor injuries. “Most crashes resulted in non-injury or minor injury,” an Oregon State Police spokesperson confirmed. No fatalities or severe injuries had been reported by the afternoon.

Terrified drivers caught in the mayhem

Motorists had no chance to escape the disaster. One stranded couple described the terrifying moment they got trapped. “The visibility was so bad, we couldn’t see the stopped traffic,” they told KATU. They slammed into a semi-truck and another vehicle before getting stuck.

Highway closed as whiteout worsens

With visibility plummeting to less than 500 feet, the Oregon Department of Transportation took drastic action. Officials shut down a 50-mile stretch of I-84 between La Grande and Baker City. Blinding snow and icy winds made travel impossible.

After hours of closures, crews finally cleared the wreckage. Authorities reopened the highway, but the nightmare left drivers shaken. This devastating pileup serves as a chilling reminder of how quickly winter weather can turn deadly!
