A Romantic Getaway Turns Into a Nightmare
What should have been a celebration of love turned into a heartbreaking mystery. Brian Tarrence, a 51-year-old tech executive from Manhattan, disappeared without a trace while vacationing in the idyllic islands of Turks and Caicos with his wife.
He was last seen in the early hours of June 25, casually walking out of their Airbnb rental wearing a T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. He took his phone and wallet—but has not been seen since.
Caught on Camera, Then Gone
Private investigator Carl DeFazio, a former NYPD officer hired by the family, said security footage captured Tarrence leaving the house around 3:30 a.m. and heading toward a popular tourist area.
“Everything prior to the point where he walked out of that house, he seems fine,” DeFazio told News12. “They had a boat trip and went to dinner. Nothing unusual.”
Yet within hours, the trip spiraled into fear. Tarrence never returned, and his phone has gone dark.
Wife Left in Shock
His wife, who had been asleep at the time, remains on the island helping with the search. The couple had only been married for one year and had planned the tropical getaway to celebrate their anniversary. They arrived on June 22 and were scheduled to return June 29.
Now, their vacation spot has become a hub of flyers, police drones, and unanswered questions.
No Signs of Trouble
DeFazio says there’s no indication that Tarrence was under stress or had plans to leave. “He’s a smart guy,” he said. “We don’t know if he did this on his own or if somebody took him.”
The area where he vanished is considered safe, and no signs of struggle have been reported. However, the search has turned up no significant leads so far.
Company and Community Respond
Tarrence worked as a vice president at Manhattan-based Diligent Software. The company released a statement saying they are “deeply concerned” and are cooperating with law enforcement.
“We have made ourselves available to fully cooperate,” Diligent said, noting they also hired a security firm to support the effort.
Locals and tourists alike have stepped in. Flyers now paper walls across the island. Shop owners, beachgoers, and volunteers are assisting in the island-wide manhunt.
Tech Trail Moves Slowly
Despite having his phone with him, access to records from local providers has been frustratingly slow. DeFazio continues to push for data that might provide clues to Tarrence’s last known location or movement.
The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police have issued a missing persons alert, but declined to comment publicly. Still, DeFazio insists they are “using everything,” including aerial surveillance and hotel camera footage.
Travel Advisory Adds Tension
Tarrence’s disappearance comes just months after the U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory warning tourists to exercise increased caution in Turks and Caicos due to rising crime.
Although DeFazio doesn’t suspect foul play at this time, he’s keeping every option on the table. “You can’t rule anything out,” he said.
Hope Fades, But Search Presses On
As of now, there’s been no activity on Tarrence’s phone, no bank transactions, and no official sightings. His wife remains hopeful but visibly shaken.
“She’s not going anywhere,” DeFazio said. “She’s staying and helping every day.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Turks and Caicos police at 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477.
The island paradise, often seen as a retreat from reality, is now the center of a growing mystery. A smart, stable, happily married man simply vanished in the night—leaving behind questions that no one can yet answer.
