Blaze consumes part of well-known holiday market in Manhattan

NEW YORK – A fire broke out at an outdoor holiday market located in Bryant Park on Friday morning, creating a scene of flames and smoke that could be seen above this popular destination in midtown Manhattan. Firefighters were quickly deployed to tackle the blaze shortly after it erupted around 9 a.m.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a representative from the city’s fire department confirmed that the fire affected a section of the market, damaging at least four shops, as well as the roof of a nearby ice skating rink.

The specific cause of the fire remains unknown, but it is noteworthy that some of the affected stalls were selling food items.

Images taken from the site revealed numerous firefighters battling the flames around the charred remnants of several wooden-framed market stalls. This long-standing holiday market is home to hundreds of vendors selling food and various holiday goods, attracting a large number of tourists in the bustling area between Times Square and Grand Central Terminal during the festive season.

This incident comes just days after another fire destroyed eighteen stalls at a holiday market in Herald Square, which was attributed to an electrical problem. The community is still recovering from that event as this new fire adds to concerns regarding safety in holiday markets.
