In a heartbreaking revelation, one of the passengers aboard Jeju Air Flight 7C 2216 sent a chilling final text message moments before the crash that claimed 179 lives on Sunday morning.
The passenger, whose family has yet to hear from them since the tragedy, texted a relative at 9 a.m., describing the dire situation: “A bird is stuck in the wing, and we can’t land. Just now. Should I leave my last words?”
The ill-fated flight, carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, overshot the runway at Muan International Airport during its landing attempt. The aircraft collided with the airport’s perimeter fence, triggering a catastrophic explosion and fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames by 9:50 a.m., but the destruction was already devastating.
Officials are investigating the bird strike reported by the passenger as a possible factor in the crash. This detail adds to evidence suggesting the aircraft faced critical challenges during its approach, including landing gear failure.
The tragedy has left families searching for answers and mourning the lives lost in South Korea’s deadliest aviation disaster.
