Facing doubts stemming from a recent debate disaster with Donald Trump, Biden aimed to prove his fitness for office at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The focus shifted from global security policy to Biden himself: his age, health history, candidacy, and the future of his party.

Despite addressing important issues like Ukraine and global leadership, Biden’s 55-minute appearance was overshadowed by his stumbling delivery, gaffes (calling Kamala Harris ‘Vice President Trump’), and moments of uncertainty. While he showcased impressive knowledge of world politics, concerns about his fitness for office remained unresolved.

During the most recent media appearance, President Biden displayed a sense of defiance and determination that may cause concern among some of his party members: “There is still a lot of work to be done,” Biden stated. He also emphasized, “I am the right person for the job!” Both in terms of governing and defeating Trump. By doing so, he is hindering his party from fielding more competitive candidates against Trump.

However, America’s eldest president acknowledged, for the first time, that he is willing to engage in discussions. This newfound openness may give hope to internal party critics that change could be on the horizon…
