French authorities reported that several individuals lost their lives in the early hours of Sunday during an unsuccessful voyage to cross the English Channel from northern France. A rescue operation is currently in progress, with survivors of the tragic incident taken to a sports hall in the northern town of Ambleteuse, as stated by the prefecture of the Pas-de-Calais region.
This occurrence took place on Saturday, nearly two weeks after a migrant boat tore apart in the English Channel as migrants aimed to reach Britain from northern France, resulting in multiple fatalities. French coast guard and navy ships rescued 200 individuals from the dangerous waters in the Pas-de-Calais region on Saturday, and there were 18 observed attempts of boat departures from France to Britain.
Before this incident, at least 43 migrants had lost their lives or gone missing while attempting to make the crossing to the U.K. this year, according to the International Organization for Migration. Tragic incidents include four fatalities in July from an inflatable boat capsizing, five individuals (including a child) losing their lives in April, and five deceased individuals discovered either in the sea or washed up on a beach following difficulties faced during a migrant boat journey in January’s harsh conditions.
