Aubrey Plaza is speaking out. Her husband, Jeff Baena, passed away last Friday at the age of 47. His tragic death was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. Reports say it was suicide.
In her first public statement, Plaza expressed her deep grief. “This is an unimaginable tragedy,” she said. The statement, shared by Plaza and Baena’s family, thanked fans for their outpouring of support. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time,” it read.
Baena, a renowned director and screenwriter, was known for his independent films. His work ranged from quirky comedies to dark, heartfelt stories. His most notable credits include the 2014 film Life After Beth and the 2004 cult classic I Heart Huckabees. Both films featured his sharp wit and unique storytelling style.
Baena’s career flourished at the Sundance Film Festival, where several of his films were featured. The festival shared a heartfelt tribute after his death. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to Jeff Baena for sharing his stories and contributing to the lasting memories we’ve built together,” the statement read. “Jeff, we’ll miss your wit, humor, and daring vision. Rest in peace, friend.”
Plaza and Baena were married in 2021. Their wedding was a quiet, intimate affair. The couple had been together for over a decade before tying the knot. Plaza revealed the details during an interview on The Ellen Show. She described the ceremony as a spontaneous event in their backyard. It took place while they were sheltering in place due to the pandemic. Plaza and Baena celebrated their tenth anniversary as a couple with this special moment.
Just days before his death, Plaza and Baena were spotted at a New Year’s Day Knicks game. Plaza appeared to be in high spirits, smiling as the couple enjoyed the game. The news of Baena’s sudden passing came as a shock to many.
Baena’s death also impacted Plaza’s schedule. She had been set to present at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles. However, Plaza pulled out of the event, understandably overwhelmed by the tragedy. During the ceremony, tributes for Baena were shared by colleagues and friends from the entertainment industry.
Fans and the entertainment community are rallying behind Plaza and Baena’s family during this difficult time. The outpouring of love and support speaks to the widespread impact Baena had through his films and personal connections.
