Armed suspect barricaded in basement charged officers and was fatally shot, prosecutors say

Authorities in East Greenville, Pennsylvania, are looking into the death of a man who allegedly confronted police officers with a weapon and was subsequently shot and killed by an officer. The incident unfolded after East Greenville police were called to a domestic disturbance by an 18-year-old who reported a physical assault at around 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Upon arrival, officers found the man barricaded in the basement of the residence, where he reportedly made threats against law enforcement. Additional police units were called to the scene, and multiple attempts were made to negotiate with the individual.

Around 11:30 p.m., officers entered the basement and encountered the man armed with a machete and hatchet. According to prosecutors, the man charged at the police officers and refused to drop his weapons despite attempts to subdue him with a stun gun.

Ultimately, an officer from the Upper Perk police department in Pennsburg fired at the man, resulting in his death. Despite receiving aid from the officers, the man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight. The man’s identity and further details have not been disclosed at this time.

In compliance with standard procedure for officer-involved shootings in the county, county detectives have been assigned to investigate the incident. Anyone with pertinent information regarding the case is urged to reach out to the detectives.
