Did Apollo astronaut witness UFOs? Late NASA pilot’s wife reveals mysterious encounters in new book
Did an Apollo astronaut witness proof of extraterrestrial life? Edgar Mitchell, the sixth man to walk on the moon, saw something extraordinary in space, according to his widow, Anita Mitchell. She claims that he and other NASA astronauts encountered unidentified flying objects during their missions, but were hesitant to share the full truth. Now, in a new book, she unveils the conversations that suggest the U.S. space program may have encountered more than just the moon.
As a member of the Apollo 14 mission in 1971, Edgar Mitchell made history. However, according to Anita, his most startling revelations weren’t about the lunar landing—they were about what he saw in space. “He always felt that there were UFOs out there because so many of the pilots and astronauts had seen something,” she stated.
Mitchell wasn’t alone. Other NASA astronauts, including James McDivitt and Leroy Gordon Cooper Jr., also reported seeing unexplained objects. Cooper, who had decades of experience, once told the Mitchells at a dinner party, “Listen, we have nothing that goes that fast and goes that high.” These comments reinforce the idea that an Apollo astronaut saw UFO encounters, and perhaps more astronauts witnessed them than the public knows.
Mitchell never backed down from his belief that UFOs were real. In 2009, he publicly called for the U.S. government to release classified information, stating, “We are being visited.” He demanded that officials end what he described as an “embargo of truth” about extraterrestrial encounters.
He argued that humanity must acknowledge the reality of alien life for survival. “The sun will burn out in due course, and we have to be off this planet if our species is to survive,” he warned, emphasizing that understanding extraterrestrial intelligence could be crucial to the future of space exploration.
After leaving NASA, Mitchell devoted himself to researching the unexplained. He founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences, studying telepathy, extrasensory perception, and even mind-over-matter abilities. His fascination with consciousness and the paranormal only deepened his belief in extraterrestrial life.
His widow, Anita, remains convinced of his claims. “Do you really think we are the only intelligence in the universe?” she asks. “Because if we are, the universe is in trouble.”
Anita Mitchell’s new book, You Don’t Look Like an Astronaut’s Wife, ensures that her husband’s extraordinary experiences won’t be forgotten. She believes that the world deserves to know the truth—an Apollo astronaut saw UFO encounters in space, and NASA pilots have been seeing unexplained phenomena for decades. Whether skeptics accept it or not, the mysteries of space remain unsolved, and Edgar Mitchell’s words continue to fuel the debate about what truly lies beyond Earth’s atmosphere.
