In Opelika, Alabama, a man named Tias Dequan Cobb, 25, was shot and killed by a police officer during an incident at a local apartment complex early Sunday morning, according to Lee County coroner Daniel Sexton. The shooting occurred after an altercation between Cobb and the officer, the Opelika Police Department reported. The police department mentioned that Cobb was armed with a firearm at the time of the altercation.
After the shooting, Cobb received medical assistance, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The incident took place outside the apartment complex where the police were responding to a suspicious incident.
Authorities have handed over all evidence and video footage related to the shooting to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation. The investigative results will be provided to the Lee County District Attorney, who will then present the case to a grand jury for further review.
