Algeria welcomes back champion boxer Imane Khelif with gold medal

In Tiaret, Algeria, Olympic gold medalist Imane Khelif was welcomed by enthusiastic supporters in her hometown on Friday. Khelif expressed gratitude for the support from Algeria and aspired to continue making her country proud in the future.
She received a hero’s welcome in Tiaret, a rural area where she honed her boxing skills, alongside track star Djamel Sedjati. Local leaders honored them before parading them through the streets on a city bus while residents cheered and took photos.
Khelif shared her appreciation for the government and the people of Algeria for their unwavering support towards sports. Throughout the Olympic Games, Algerians stood by Khelif amidst international controversy surrounding her gender.
Despite facing challenges and scrutiny, including inappropriate comments from notable figures like Elon Musk and J.K. Rowling, the people of Tiaret celebrated Khelif’s victory and expressed hope for her continued success.
Residents, like Mohamed Hamou, emphasized the need for ongoing support for Khelif beyond moments of triumph, recognizing the adversity she overcame to achieve success. Nadjia Fehma praised Khelif as an inspiration and source of pride for the community.
Khelif recently filed a criminal complaint for cyber-harassment in France, denouncing the prejudiced campaign she endured during the Olympics. She addressed the challenges she faced in a television interview, emphasizing her resilience in overcoming adversity.
Despite the global scrutiny she encountered, Khelif remains focused on her athletic career and aims to continue representing Algeria with pride and determination.
