A preliminary 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck approximately 60 miles off the coast of Ferndale in Humboldt County late Thursday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
In response to the quake, the National Weather Service issued a tsunami warning, urging Californians to evacuate coastal areas immediately.
But it has been canceled around noon local time.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometers at 10:44 a.m., according to the USGS. As of now, there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
In light of the event, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has temporarily halted all trains from using the Transbay Tube as a precautionary measure.
Officials are monitoring the situation closely as residents in affected areas brace for potential impacts. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
