A’ja Wilson Scores 1,000 Points in Single Season, a Historic Milestone for WNBA as Aces Beat Sun

A milestone was achieved in the WNBA as A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces became the first player in the league to score 1,000 points in a single season. Wilson accomplished this feat by scoring 29 points during the Aces’ 84-71 victory over the Connecticut Sun. With just 2 minutes remaining in the game, Wilson made a crucial shot from the elbow to reach the historic 1,000-point mark. This achievement came shortly after Wilson broke the single-season scoring record previously held by Jewell Loyd.
The Las Vegas Aces, with a record of 25-13, are currently holding a one-game lead over Seattle for the No. 4 seed in the playoffs, aiming for home-court advantage in the upcoming series. The team has been in excellent form, winning seven of their last eight games leading up to this victory against the Connecticut Sun.
On the other side, the Connecticut Sun, with a 27-11 record, are trailing the Minnesota Lynx by two games for the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. The Sun had a tough third quarter against the Aces, making only 4 of 16 field goal attempts and falling behind as Las Vegas extended their lead to 71-51 by the start of the fourth quarter.
In the game, Marina Mabrey was the top scorer for the Sun with 18 points, followed by Brionna Jones who contributed 17 points and nine rebounds, and Tyasha Harris with 16 points. Jones has been performing exceptionally well in September, averaging 20.1 points per game on an impressive 66% shooting percentage in seven games.
Kelsey Plum played a crucial role for the Aces, finishing with 14 points including a game-changing 3-pointer that sparked an 11-1 run and gave Las Vegas the lead for good. This victory further solidifies the Aces’ position in the playoff race as they continue to showcase their strength and determination on the court.
