Air India Tragedy: Sole Survivor Shares Emotional First Interview

  • Vishwash Kumar Ramesh is the only survivor of the Air India Tragedy near Ahmedabad.
  • He escaped despite multiple injuries and describes the Air India tragedy as happening within seconds after takeoff.
  • His family is shocked and seeking news of another brother who was also on the flight, affected by the tragedy.

In a tragedy that claimed the lives of 241 people, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British national, stands alone as the sole survivor of the horrific Air India Tragedy near Ahmedabad, India. Sitting in seat 11A, Vishwash lived through what no one else on the plane did — and in his first interview since the disaster, he opened up about the terrifying moments and the mysterious way he escaped death.

Moments After Takeoff: A Sudden, Terrifying Crash

“It all happened so fast,” Vishwash recalled. Just thirty seconds after takeoff, the plane suddenly shuddered with a loud noise. “There was a big bang, then the plane started crashing.” The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people bound for London, plummeted into a residential area, engulfed in flames moments later. Vishwash described the crash as a blur of chaos — metal twisting, windows shattering, and a roar of fire.

Awake Amidst the Wreckage: A Fight for Survival

What happened next still puzzles him. “When I woke up after the Air India tragedy, I was surrounded by bodies. It was terrifying.” Vishwash said he was confused and scared but somehow found the strength to stand up despite injuries. “There were pieces of the plane everywhere. I just ran as fast as I could.”

Someone nearby grabbed him and helped get him onto an ambulance. “I have no idea how I got out alive,” Vishwash told reporters from his hospital bed in Ahmedabad’s civil hospital, where he remains under treatment for multiple injuries. Doctors say he was disoriented and badly hurt but stable.

Family Shocked and Waiting for Answers

His family back in Leicester, England, are stunned by his survival. “We’re shocked and devastated,” said his brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh. “He told me he couldn’t understand how he managed to escape.” The family is desperate for news of another brother who was also on the flight but whose fate amidst the tragedy remains unknown.

A Miracle in the Midst of Tragedy

Vishwash’s survival is nothing short of a miracle, and investigators are working to piece together exactly how he escaped the fatal Air India Tragedy. Officials confirmed that he is the only passenger to have walked away from the disaster, which killed everyone else on board.

Carrying Hope Forward

As the world mourns the tragic loss, Vishwash’s story stands as a powerful reminder of hope amid unimaginable horror — a man who survived a deadly plane crash and now faces the long road to recovery while carrying the weight of memories no one should have to endure.
