Aaron Rodgers and Jets first-team players to sit out in last preseason game against Giants

In Florham Park, New Jersey, New York Jets’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers will sit out the team’s preseason finale against the Giants, marking almost a year since his last snap in a game. Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh confirmed that Rodgers and other starters will not participate in the upcoming game on Saturday night. Last year, Rodgers, who is 40 years old, suffered a left Achilles tendon injury four snaps into his Jets debut on September 11 against Buffalo.

Saleh’s decision to rest the starters means that none of the Jets’ projected starting lineup will have seen action in any preseason games. Rodgers, who has fully recovered and showcased strong performance during training camp, expressed contentment with his physical condition and preparation for the upcoming season.

Despite concerns over injuries, Saleh emphasized that the choice to keep the starters out of the final preseason game was about ensuring the team’s readiness for their season opener against San Francisco on September 9. Saleh cited the extensive work accomplished during joint practices with other teams, deeming it more valuable than the game against the Giants.

Instead of Rodgers, rookie Adrian Martinez, the UFL MVP from last season, will start against the Giants, with fellow rookie Andrew Peasley taking over in the second half. Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor will also not play in the preseason finale. Last year, Rodgers played two series in the same game, connecting with Garrett Wilson for a touchdown.
