A Russian missile attacks a Ukrainian city reeling from previous deadly strikes

In Kyiv, Ukraine, a Russian missile struck Kryvyi Rih on Wednesday, during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s home city’s official day of mourning for a previous attack that killed four civilians at a hotel. The recent strike hit civilian infrastructure, injuring four individuals, according to local administration head Oleksandr Vilkul’s social media post.

The attack on Tuesday, preceding the recent strike, resulted in five injuries and four fatalities in Kryvyi Rih, which was part of a series of missile and drone attacks initiated by Russia across Ukraine for a second day in a row. “When Kryvyi Rih is in mourning, the enemy attacks again. And it once again aims at civilians,” stated regional head Serhii Lysak on Wednesday.

Starting on Monday, Russia intensified its bombing of Ukraine by launching over 100 missiles and an equal number of drones in one of its most significant onslaughts in weeks. This marked a crucial phase in the war that Russia initiated on February 24, 2022.

Russian forces have been pushing further into Ukraine’s partially occupied eastern Donetsk region, with the complete capture of the area being a primary objective for the Kremlin. Russian troops are advancing towards Pokrovsk, a vital logistics center for Ukrainian defense in the region.

Simultaneously, Ukraine deployed its forces into Russia’s Kursk region recently in the largest incursion onto Russian soil since World War II. This tactic aims to divert Russia’s attention from the Donetsk front.

Rescuers in Kryvyi Rih discovered another body under the rubble at the hotel on Wednesday, prompting the conclusion of the rescue operation. Furthermore, Ukraine reported that its anti-aircraft defenses successfully downed a Russian Su-25 jet in the Donetsk region.

In response, Ukraine continued its long-range drone attacks on Russia’s rear logistical areas, resulting in a fuel depot being set ablaze.
