The Oak Park Police Department said the incident happened just after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. A Brinks truck was heading south on the 300 block of South Austin when, without warning, the rear door gave way.

Suddenly, three full bags of currency tumbled onto the road, startling drivers and pedestrians in the area.

Oak Park authorities recovered all three bags swiftly and are now working with Brinks to determine how the door opened.

A department spokesperson said, “We responded quickly, and the incident is under investigation. There’s no indication that anyone intentionally tried to access the funds.”

Thankfully, no one was injured during the roadside chaos. Officials confirmed that none of the passing drivers or pedestrians were harmed, and there was no car damage related to the falling bags.
