Meghan Markle Cover Sparks Criticism From Vanity Fair Editor

Meghan Markle Cover Resurfaces With Sharp Criticism

The Meghan Markle cover published by Vanity Fair in 2017 is back in the spotlight. Former editor Graydon Carter claims the Duchess of Sussex was disconnected from reality during the process. He says Meghan insisted the story focus on her charity work, not her relationship with Prince Harry.

Carter, who ran the magazine for 25 years, admitted he initially didnโ€™t recognize her name when she was pitched as a cover star. โ€œSheโ€™s on Suits,โ€ his colleague explained. Once Carter learned she was dating Prince Harry, he approved the feature. The issue hit stands just weeks before Meghanโ€™s engagement was announced.

Behind-The-Scenes Drama During The Meghan Markle Cover

During her interview with Vanity Fair, Meghan allegedly pushed back when asked about Harry. She reportedly said, โ€œIs this going to all be about Prince Harry? I thought we were discussing my philanthropy.โ€ Carter recalled the moment with raised eyebrows, describing her as โ€œslightly adrift on the facts and reality.โ€

The Meghan Markle cover quickly gained attention, especially as her royal relationship became official. According to Carter, Meghan misunderstood the mediaโ€™s priorities. The editor, who had been close to Princess Diana, said Diana would be heartbroken over Harryโ€™s rift with Prince William and King Charles.

From Cover Star To Contentious Celebrity

Since stepping back from royal duties, Meghan has struggled to reshape her image. Her Netflix series With Love, Meghan aimed to show a domestic side, featuring baking, gardening, and beekeeping. However, the show received mixed reviews and drew comparisons to other celebrities.

A social media post by Gwyneth Paltrow appeared to throw subtle shade at Meghan. Filmed in a casual kitchen setting with no makeup and minimal effort, Paltrowโ€™s video was interpreted as a contrast to Meghanโ€™s polished, curated lifestyle content. Meghan responded with her own banana split video, tagging her jam brand and giggling with a friend on camera.

Editor Doubts Meghanโ€™s Long-Term Intentions

Carter didnโ€™t stop at criticizing the Meghan Markle cover experience. In previous interviews, he suggested her marriage to Prince Harry may not last decades. He accused her of seeking fame, wealth, and status, saying she โ€œran rings around Harry.โ€ According to him, her ambition has always been calculated.

Despite this, Netflix continues to back the Duchess. Her series has been renewed for another season. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos defended her, saying Meghan had been underestimated. Still, public and critical responses remain divided.

Media Attention Shows No Sign Of Slowing

Though the Meghan Markle cover was released years ago, the controversy surrounding it reflects the larger public debate about Meghanโ€™s image. Critics argue her desire for privacy conflicts with her ongoing efforts to stay in the spotlight. From podcast deals to Instagram posts, she remains a lightning rod for attention.

Whether Meghan successfully rebrands or continues to polarize audiences remains to be seen. But one thing is certainโ€”the media is still very much watching.
