First Millennial Saint: Carlo Acutis to Be Canonized in April 2025

Many pilgrims are traveling to Assisi, Italy, to visit the tomb of Carlo Acutis. This British-born teenager died in 2006 at the age of 15 from leukemia. Since then, people have credited him with miracles. Because of this, the Catholic Church will declare him the First Millennial Saint next month. Pope Francis beatified him in 2020. Now, he will officially become a saint. His canonization will happen in April 2025. The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Assisi preserves his body. A wax layer covers him, making him appear as he did before burial. Worshippers can visit his tomb and see him as he looked in life.

Carlo Acutis Was Known as “God’s Influencer”

Carlo was known for using technology to share his faith. Many people call him “God’s influencer” because he spread religious messages online. He created a website about Eucharistic miracles, where he shared stories of faith. His mother described him as a computer genius who enjoyed video games and soccer. Despite his young age, he was deeply religious and passionate about helping others. His love for Saint Francis of Assisi inspired him to dedicate time to the poor. He often defended bullied classmates and gave food to the homeless. Many believe his kindness and strong faith set him apart and led to his recognition as the First Millennial Saint.

Miracles and the Road to Sainthood

For someone to become a saint, the Catholic Church must confirm two miracles. Carlo has been linked to two miraculous healings. In 2013, prayers to him led to the healing of a Brazilian boy with a rare pancreatic disease. In 2022, a Costa Rican woman’s mother prayed at Carlo’s tomb. That same day, her daughter, who had suffered a serious brain injury, began breathing on her own. Ten days later, doctors discharged her from intensive care. These events qualified as miracles, allowing Carlo’s canonization to move forward and securing his title as the First Millennial Saint.

The Process of Becoming a Saint

The path to sainthood is long and detailed. It begins with a local bishop investigating whether the person lived a holy life. If approved, the Vatican reviews the case. In 2018, Pope Francis declared Carlo “venerable,” recognizing his life of virtue. After the confirmation of the first miracle, he was beatified. With the second miracle confirmed, he is now ready to become a saint. His canonization will take place during the Jubilee of Teenagers in April 2025. Many people from around the world are expected to attend this historic event, celebrating the First Millennial Saint.

Carlo Acutis’ Lasting Influence and Legacy

Carlo’s story continues to inspire people worldwide. He was a teenager who used technology to share his faith. His kindness, generosity, and strong beliefs make him a unique figure in the Catholic Church. He will soon officially receive the title of Saint Carlo Acutis. Many visitors are already traveling to Assisi to honor him. Some are buying souvenirs and mementos in his name. His legacy as the First Millennial Saint shows that faith and kindness can exist even in the digital age.
