Crash on I-91 VT results in one death and several injuries

A deadly crash on Interstate 91 in Rockingham resulted in one fatality and a child in critical condition. The crash took place on Saturday morning when a passenger vehicle collided with a fuel tanker. The collision occurred on a slippery road, causing severe injuries and traffic delays. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assist those involved. Investigators are still looking into what caused the crash.

Details of the accident: One dead, a juvenile seriously hurt

The crash happened just before 9:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-91 near mile marker 33. The passenger vehicle, which carried four people, rear-ended a fuel tanker. The driver of the car lost control on the slick road. One occupant died at the scene. A juvenile passenger suffered life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders quickly flew the child to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. Ambulances took two others, another child and an adult, to the hospital. They had non-life-threatening injuries but needed medical attention.

Tanker driver unharmed in the crash

The driver of the fuel tanker, which carried fuel at the time of the crash, remained unharmed. The tanker did not overturn or spill its contents, which helped prevent further danger. The driver stayed at the scene to assist investigators and provide information.

Traffic delays and road closures due to the crash

Police closed the northbound lanes of I-91 after the crash. They set up a roadblock to allow investigators to work safely. This caused significant traffic delays for drivers. While clearing the crash, authorities responded to several smaller incidents nearby. These included cars sliding off the road and other minor crashes. Thankfully, none resulted in serious injuries.

Ongoing investigation and public caution urged

Vermont State Police are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. They are being assisted by the Department of Motor Vehicles Enforcement and Safety Division. Officials have not yet released the names of those involved, as they continue to gather information. Drivers are urged to exercise caution in the area, as road conditions remain dangerous. The authorities expect to release more details as the investigation continues.
