As of early Sunday morning, emergency officials have been evacuating multiple neighborhoods, including Blackberry Lane, Spring Lake, and Walkers Woods, as shifting winds continue to spread the fire. Authorities have also ordered residents in Covington Lakes and Avalon to leave immediately.

Firefighters struggle against shifting winds

The fire, fueled by dry conditions and erratic wind patterns, is spreading rapidly toward residential areas. Crews are battling to contain it using heavy machinery and aerial drones to track its movements.

Many residents have described the harrowing escape, with some seeing flames just minutes before evacuating. One resident, Maria Rivera, recounted how her family barely had time to grab essentials before fleeing.

Emergency response in full force

More than 400 personnel and 127 fire apparatus have been deployed to the scene, with reinforcements from the South Carolina Forestry Commission. Crews are working around the clock to create firebreaks and slow the blaze’s advance.
