Shock and grieve! Michelle Trachtenberg, ‘Buffy’ star, dies at 39

Michelle Trachtenberg, a beloved millennial actor known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, was found dead in her New York City home early Wednesday morning. She was 39 years old.

No foul play suspected

Trachtenberg’s Hollywood career spanned decades, beginning with her breakout role in Harriet the Spy (1996). She later gained fame as Dawn Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, appearing in 66 episodes from 2000 to 2003.

The actress was also a fan-favorite as the manipulative Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl, a role that was initially meant for just one season but became a recurring character over six seasons.

Heartfelt tributes from colleagues

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, creators of Gossip Girl, released a statement mourning her loss:

“Michelle was so funny, kind, and talented. Her portrayal of Georgina Sparks was an iconic fan favorite. She was a delight to have on set and will be deeply missed.”

Trachtenberg’s Buffy co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar previously praised her, and in 2019, Trachtenberg wrote on social media: “I’m happy to have been the chosen sister to your iconic role.”

Fans expressed concern over recent health speculation

In recent months, fans voiced concerns over Trachtenberg’s appearance, noting she looked frail. She responded sarcastically to one comment, saying: “Did you lose a calendar and not realize I’m not 14? I’m 38.”

The news of her passing has left Hollywood and fans in shock, as they remember an actress whose performances shaped their childhoods and teen years.
