Lauren Jensen nets 28 points as No. 23 Creighton women’s team beats DePaul 83-74.

CHICAGO — In an exciting clash on Sunday, Lauren Jensen exploded for 28 points, leading No. 23 Creighton to an 83-74 victory over DePaul, fueled by a dominant second half.

At halftime, Creighton held a narrow three-point advantage, but as the game progressed, their lead fluctuated with just a three-point cushion late in the third quarter. However, the Bluejays shifted gears as Molly Mogensen and Kennedy Townsend both drained three-pointers, pushing Creighton to a 62-53 lead as they entered the final quarter. An impressive 8-0 run from Creighton in the middle of the fourth quarter cemented their lead, ultimately putting the game out of reach at 77-60.

Morgan Maly contributed significantly with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Mogensen recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists for Creighton, whose season record now stands at 23 wins and four losses (15-1 in Big East play). Mallory Brake also added to the scoreline with 11 points.

For DePaul, Taylor Johnson-Matthews was the standout scorer with 26 points, complemented by Jorie Allen, who tallied 22 points along with seven assists. Meg Newman had a solid performance as well, grabbing 13 rebounds.

In the first quarter, Johnson-Matthews and Allen combined effectively, scoring eight and seven points, respectively, which allowed DePaul to build a 22-14 lead in the period’s final moments. Creighton, however, fought back valiantly in the second quarter. A three-point play by Kiani Lockett pushed the Bluejays into a 32-31 lead, and Jensen capped off a strong second quarter with a three-pointer, helping Creighton take a 41-38 lead at halftime.

As the regular season nears its conclusion, Creighton remains a single game behind No. 5 UConn. They are set to face the Huskies on Thursday before returning home to take on Villanova on Sunday. Meanwhile, DePaul will close out their week against Seton Hall on Thursday and host St. John’s on Sunday.
