MANCHESTER, England — Ruben Amorim has addressed the numerous challenges facing Manchester United, but he remains focused on the welfare of the team rather than his own situation following yet another loss.
“I’m not concerned about myself; my focus is on the club, the team, and the players,” Amorim expressed. “Losing is something I detest; it’s an awful feeling. Other concerns are not on my mind.” His main desire is to “support my players” as they strive for success.
The latest setback came with a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham, leaving United languishing in 15th place in the Premier League. This marked Amorim’s ninth defeat since he took on the managerial role in November.
“There are many challenges to contend with; my job is incredibly tough, but I’m determined to carry on with my beliefs and aim for victory next week,” he stated, reflecting on the heartbreak of James Maddison’s goal that sealed United’s misfortune at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Amorim, who previously clinched two titles in the Portuguese league with Sporting Lisbon, has faced a difficult initiation into his role at United, with the club sitting perilously just three spots above the relegation zone.
Historically, it’s worth noting that the last occurrence of United suffering 12 losses within the first 25 league games was during the 1973-74 season, which resulted in the club’s relegation from the top tier.
“I am fully aware of my circumstances and my responsibilities,” Amorim concluded. “My primary goal is to secure victories.”
