IRVINE, California — Devin Tillis delivered an impressive performance with 22 points, including a game-winning tip-in just as the clock ticked down, leading UC Irvine to a thrilling 62-60 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Thursday evening.
Tillis was also a strong contributor on the boards, securing eight rebounds for the Anteaters, who improved their record to 21 wins and four losses, positioning themselves at 11-2 in the Big West Conference. Myles Che supported the effort with 13 points, shooting 5 for 12 from the field and making one of his four attempts from three-point range. Justin Hohn also added to the scoreline with eight points on a 3 of 8 shooting performance.
As time was running out, Che made a crucial play, delivering a high-arced inbounds pass from the right corner that sailed over the rim to the right block. Tillis expertly timed his leap to guide the ball into the basket just as the game concluded.
The Gauchos, with a current record of 16-9 and 8-6 in conference play, were spearheaded by Stephan D. Swenson, who notched 18 points and two steals. Kenny Pohto made significant contributions as well, scoring 15 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and blocking two shots. Additionally, Jason Fontenet II rounded out the scoring with 10 points, along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Looking ahead, UC Irvine is set to face Hawaii this upcoming Sunday on the road, while UCSB will travel to meet UC Riverside on Saturday.
