PORTLAND, Ore. — In an impressive display of skill, Ben Gregg achieved a personal best by scoring 24 points without missing a single shot, while Michael Ajayi chipped in with a season-high 20 points, leading Gonzaga to a decisive 105-62 win against Portland on Saturday night.
Gregg was flawless on the court, converting all 10 of his field goal attempts, which included four successful three-pointers, and he also made all four of his free throw attempts, adding six rebounds to his tally. The Bulldogs, with a record of 15-6 and 6-2 in the West Coast Conference, received significant contributions from Ajayi, who not only scored 20 points but also secured eight rebounds off the bench. Graham Ike followed suit with 14 points and four assists, while Nolan Hickman added 13 points, making three three-pointers and recording four steals.
On the Pilots’ side, Max Mackinnon was the top scorer with 18 points, supported by Chris Austin who contributed 17 points, and Austin Rapp who added 16 points to the scoreboard.
Gonzaga took control of the game early, grabbing the lead just 45 seconds into the first half and maintaining it throughout. Gregg’s stellar performance helped the Bulldogs establish a substantial 49-29 halftime advantage. In the second half, Gonzaga showcased their strength by going on an 11-0 run, widening their lead to a remarkable 41 points. Ajayi spearheaded the scoring in the second half, finishing with a team-high of 16 points during that period.
The Bulldogs are set to host Oregon State on Tuesday, while the Pilots will travel to face Loyola Marymount on Thursday.
