MLS expansion team San Diego signs Danish winger Anders Dreyer from Anderlecht

SAN DIEGO — Major League Soccer’s new expansion club in San Diego has made a significant move by signing Danish winger Anders Dreyer from Anderlecht of Belgium. The announcement was made on Wednesday, and Dreyer has secured a three-year contract with the team.

Dreyer, who follows in the footsteps of Mexican winger Hirving Lozano, now becomes the second designated player for San Diego. This status signifies that both his salary and the acquisition costs are beyond the $743,750 limit set for budget charges.

The 26-year-old player is known for his left-footed playing style and has proven himself on the field, netting 26 goals in league play and amassing a total of 31 goals across all competitions during his 2.5-year stint at Anderlecht. Before his time in Belgium, Dreyer played for several clubs, including Esbjerg, St. Mirren, Heerenveen, Midtjylland, and Rubin Kazan.

As the 30th team added to Major League Soccer, San Diego is gearing up for its inaugural match, which is scheduled against the LA Galaxy on February 23. This new chapter promises excitement as the team builds its roster and looks to make a mark in the league.
