ST. PAUL, Minn. — In an impressive display of skill, Brianne Jenner netted her inaugural goal in the Premier Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) less than four minutes into the match, leading the Ottawa Charge to a narrow 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Frost on Tuesday night. Gwyneth Philips was crucial for Ottawa, recording 22 saves and achieving her first career shutout, effectively ending the team’s three-game losing skid.

With this win, Ottawa improved its record to 5-0-2-5, allowing them to overtake New York and claim the third position in the league standings with a total of 17 points. This matchup marked the Charge’s eighth away game of the season, showcasing their resilience on the road.

Minnesota, on the other hand, faced its third consecutive loss, accumulating a record of 4-3-2-4. The Frost had struggled offensively in their previous outing as well, failing to score against New York on January 5.

The game took a decisive turn just 3 minutes and 19 seconds in, when Gabbie Hughes maneuvered along the boards and delivered a precise pass to Jenner, who was in a prime scoring position in front of the net.

Philips took to the net in place of Emerance Maschmeyer for the third time this season, ultimately managing to secure her first career victory. Furthermore, this marked Ottawa’s first shutout of the current campaign. Last season, Philips had an impressive track record, having recorded six shutouts and earning the prestigious title of Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association National Goalie of the Year during her time at Northeastern in Division I.

In the final moments of the game, with 3:23 remaining in the third period, Ottawa was awarded a power play after Michela Cava was penalized for roughing. As the clock ticked down to 1:09, Minnesota opted to pull its goalie in hopes of equalizing; however, they were unable to register a shot on goal during this stretch, sealing their fate in this tightly contested match.
