Angels and lefty José Quijada reach a 1-year agreement worth $1,075,000, sidestepping arbitration.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Los Angeles Angels have successfully reached an agreement with left-handed pitcher José Quijada to avert arbitration. This one-year contract is worth $1,075,000 and includes a team option for $3.75 million for the 2026 season.

Quijada, who is 29 years old, had an impressive season last year, finishing with a record of 2-2 and an earned run average (ERA) of 3.26 over 19 and one-third innings, spread across 22 games. Throughout the season, he demonstrated his ability to keep hitters at bay, limiting them to a .190 batting average. He recorded 24 strikeouts, although he did walk 17 batters.

Throughout his six-year career in Major League Baseball, Quijada has compiled a record of 4-14 with a 4.64 ERA. In the arbitration process leading up to the agreement, Quijada had sought a salary increase from his previous pay of $840,000 to $1.14 million, while the Angels proposed an offer of $975,000 during the exchange of figures on January 9.

As arbitration hearings are set to begin next week in St. Petersburg, Florida, there are still fourteen players awaiting their decisions. Notable among them are Angels’ infielder Luis Rengifo, who is seeking a raise from $4.4 million to $5.95 million and has been offered $5.8 million. Additionally, outfielder Mickey Moniak has asked for an increase from $770,000 to $2 million, with a counteroffer of $1.5 million on the table.
