Ohio State’s second-string quarterback Devin Brown moves to Cal

In a recent development in college football, Devin Brown, who served as the backup quarterback for Ohio State, has decided to transfer to the University of California, Berkeley. Brown entered the transfer portal back in December but remained with the Buckeyes throughout their journey to the national championship, which culminated in a victory against Notre Dame on Monday night.

On Tuesday, Cal officially announced that Brown would be joining their roster for the upcoming season. This transition comes after the Bears experienced a setback in their quarterback lineup, losing starting quarterback Fernando Mendoza to Indiana and seeing both backup quarterbacks, Chandler Rogers and CJ Harris, enter the transfer portal as well.

As Brown joins the Golden Bears, he is anticipated to be in contention for the starting quarterback position, where he will likely compete against freshmen player Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele. Brown still holds two years of eligibility, allowing him to contribute significantly to the Cal program.

In the 2023 season, Brown faced a tough competition for the starting role against Kyle McCord but ultimately lost out. His situation was further complicated when the Buckeyes recruited Kansas State transfer Will Howard for the 2024 season, pushing Brown further down the depth chart. Hailing from Gilbert, Arizona, Brown has logged a total of 331 passing yards and three touchdowns over the past two seasons, primarily participating during garbage time in games.

With this move, Brown looks to carve out a new path for himself at Cal and make a more significant impact on the field.
