Yale defeats Columbia 92-88

NEW YORK — John Poulakidas showcased an impressive performance, scoring 29 points to lead Yale to a 92-88 victory over Columbia on Saturday.

Poulakidas also contributed five rebounds for the Bulldogs, who improved their record to 9-6 and remain unbeaten in the Ivy League at 2-0. His effort was complemented by Nick Townsend, who netted 20 points with an efficient shooting performance of 8 for 12 from the field and a perfect 3 for 3 from the free-throw line, along with nine rebounds. Bez Mbeng added to the Bulldogs’ scoring spree with 19 points, shooting 4 for 8 overall, which included two successful three-pointers, and made 9 out of 13 free throws.

On the other side of the court, Columbia’s Avery Brown was the standout player, leading his team with 21 points and providing four assists. Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa contributed significantly as well, finishing with 17 points and three steals. Kenny Noland rounded out the scoring for the Lions with 16 points and four assists, as Columbia fell to 11-4 overall and is still searching for their first Ivy League win, now standing at 0-2.

Looking ahead, both teams are set to return to the court on Monday. Yale will play host to Dartmouth, while Columbia is scheduled to face Princeton on the road.
