Whitt tallies 20 points as Belmont defeats Evansville 85-82

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, Carter Whitt played a pivotal role in Belmont’s narrow 85-82 victory over Evansville.
Whitt delivered an impressive performance, scoring 20 points with an efficient shooting record of 8 for 13 from the field and a perfect 3 for 3 from the free-throw line. The Bruins improved to a record of 14-5 and 6-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference with this win.
Additionally, Brigham Rogers contributed significantly, finishing the game with 16 points and securing eight rebounds. Jonathan Pierre also made a mark with 15 points, although he shot 4 for 13 overall from the field, which included a 3 for 8 success rate from beyond the arc. He also made all of his free-throw attempts, going 4 for 4.
On the other side, Cameron Haffner was the standout player for the Purple Aces, netting 25 points. Tayshawn Comer supported his team’s efforts with 16 points, along with seven rebounds and six assists. Connor Turnbull added to the scoreboard with 13 points and contributed defensively with two blocks.
During the first half, Rogers scored 10 points, which helped the Bruins establish a slim lead of 39-37 by halftime. In the crucial moments of the second half, Whitt excelled, contributing 15 points to ensure Belmont secured the three-point victory.
Looking ahead, Belmont will face Bradley at home on Tuesday, while Evansville is set to host UIC on Wednesday.
