SAN FRANCISCO — Kay Cossington, currently the women’s technical director for the English Football Association, has been appointed to lead a new multi-club soccer organization in partnership with the majority owner of Bay FC.
The initiative, named Bay Collective, was revealed on Friday and aims to invest in top women’s soccer clubs around the globe, collaborating with Sixth Street, a global investment firm that holds the lead ownership role for the National Women’s Soccer League’s San Francisco Bay Area team.
In her new position, Cossington will take on the responsibilities of Head of Women’s Soccer at Sixth Street and serve as CEO of the Bay Collective, with a primary goal of improving player and team development throughout various levels of the sport.
Cossington has been an essential figure within the FA since 2005, coaching youth teams initially before taking on the role of women’s technical director in 2020. She will continue her duties with the FA until May.
“Women’s football has seen immense growth recently, and I feel we are at a crucial turning point. This is the perfect moment to harness that momentum to set higher standards and to create something new and enduring that will elevate the sport to the next level,” Cossington stated.
The Bay Collective intends to equip athletes with a variety of resources, including state-of-the-art training facilities, performance infrastructure, analytics, and opportunities for professional growth. Bay FC will be the inaugural club to benefit from this initiative.
Based in San Francisco, Sixth Street has previously invested in prominent global teams, including Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as the NBA team, the San Antonio Spurs.
