Jake Guentzel nets decisive shootout goal, leading Lightning to 4-3 victory against Ducks

TAMPA, Fla. — On Thursday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning triumphed over the Anaheim Ducks with a 4-3 victory, thanks to Jake Guentzel’s crucial goal in the shootout.

Brayden Point, Anthony Cirelli, and Guentzel contributed to the Lightning’s scoring during regulation, while goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy displayed exceptional skill, making 34 saves and stopping all three shots in the shootout.

For the Ducks, Robby Fabbri, Troy Terry, and Leo Carlsson found the net, but the team now stands with a record of 1-3-1 on their current six-game road trip. Anaheim’s Lukas Dostal was busy in net, stopping 32 shots throughout the game.

The Lightning entered the third period with a 3-2 advantage, but Fabbri’s deflection of Jacob Trouba’s shot at 9:53 in the final frame sent the match into overtime.

**Highlights**

For the Ducks, Trouba managed to earn his third point in 20 games since joining Anaheim on December 9, courtesy of his assist on Fabbri’s goal. Notably, this marked the Ducks’ twelfth overtime game this season.
Meanwhile, for the Lightning, Erik Cernak was forced to exit the game after just one shift and did not return. This matchup also marked only the second time this season Tampa Bay has gone into a shootout.

**Defining Moment**

A critical moment came when Dostal denied Brandon Hagel on two separate short-handed breakaways during an Anaheim power-play opportunity in the third period, preserving the Ducks’ chance to tie the game, which they accomplished eight minutes later.

**Notable Achievement**

On a historic note, Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman became the first player in the franchise to achieve 600 career assists. He also joined an elite group as just the fourth Swedish-born defenseman in NHL history to reach this milestone, a list that includes renowned players Nicklas Lidstrom, Borje Salming, and Erik Karlsson.

**Looking Ahead**

The Ducks will be facing off against the Florida Panthers, while the Lightning will host the Detroit Red Wings, with both games scheduled for Saturday night.
