GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A formal complaint of sexual assault has been lodged against Taurean Green, an assistant coach for the Florida men’s basketball team. This development occurs as the university also investigates head coach Todd Golden for potential violations of Title IX.

According to reports, an employee from the university’s athletics department filed the complaint with the Title IX office two days ago. The incident allegedly took place in March 2024 when the woman met Green on campus, where he reportedly kissed her and attempted to reach for her pants. A copy of the complaint, which has been reviewed, outlines these accusations.

Wishing to remain unnamed due to concerns over retaliation, the woman stated that she had not previously interacted alone with Green, having only exchanged brief pleasantries on campus. After the alleged incident, she chose not to report it immediately, partly due to Green’s prominent role within the program. Green, a former player who helped the Gators secure NCAA championships in 2006 and 2007, joined the coaching staff in 2022 after a career in professional basketball.

The woman indicated that her decision to come forward was influenced by Title IX investigators looking into Golden’s conduct with female athletes. During interviews last fall, she recognized potential concerning patterns of behavior, prompting her to report her allegations to Florida’s deputy athletics director, Amy Meyers Hass, in mid-December.

In addition to Green’s complaint, the university is still probing an earlier Title IX allegation against Golden from September 27. This complaint involves serious claims of sexual exploitation, harassment, and stalking. Specific allegations detail that Golden sent inappropriate photographs and videos, made unwanted sexual advances via Instagram, and solicited sexual favors.

Title IX legislation seeks to safeguard students from discrimination and sexual harassment. At the University of Florida, Title IX investigations are managed by an external company known as Grand River Solutions, which operates out of California.

Golden, who initially signed a six-year contract worth $18 million to lead the team, agreed to a two-year extension in March 2024, ensuring his stay through the 2029-30 season. His contract stipulates that no romantic or sexual relationships are allowed between coaches and student-athletes or anyone under their supervision. Furthermore, the agreement grants the university the authority to impose disciplinary measures if the coach’s conduct negatively affects the reputation or interests of the athletic department or the institution as a whole.
